In recent years, a number of Black and Latina female entrepreneurs have made waves in the business world, building startups that have achieved a $1 billion valuation or higher. These women include Jessica Alba, the founder of The Honest Company, as well as Whitney Wolfe Herd, the CEO of Bumble. Despite the challenges these founders face as women of color in a largely white, male-dominated industry, they have managed to overcome obstacles and make their mark on the business world.
These entrepreneurs have built companies in a range of industries, from e-commerce to healthcare. Along with Alba and Wolfe Herd, there’s also Christina Stembel, the founder of Farmgirl Flowers, and Payal Kadakia, the CEO of ClassPass. According to a recent report from Forbes, there are just 29 female founders who have achieved a $1 billion valuation or higher, and only eight of them are Black or Latina. These women serve as role models and trailblazers for future generations of women entrepreneurs, showing that it’s possible to succeed in spite of obstacles and discrimination.
